HOW TO RAISE A PUPPY? TIPS

Raising a young puppy is important because a dog must be able to survive in our densely populated society. A dog breeder or shelter has laid the foundation for the young puppy and from then on you take over.

What are great tips to properly educate your puppy?

Tip 1 - give him a safe place

First of all, a safe comfortable place is important for the dog to get used to his new home. A private place for the dog such as, under the stairs. The dog can safely retreat and sleep peacefully in a place where the dog gets used to. If you use a House-on-the-go the dog can make it his own home when you're in the go. A crate is often too small and a dog can feel anxious in a crate.

Note: a lying place is very useful to send the dog to its place. However, do not do this if the dog is punished. The dog will then link his lying place as a punishment place instead of his own safe resting place. Grab a treat, walk to your dog's place and call him over to you.

Tip 2 - a puppy course!

In the first 14 weeks the puppy is in the socialization phase, in which your puppy is still open to new impressions. So you want to make optimal use of this period. By going on a puppy course the dog is eligible with other dogs and other people. The bond between the owner and the dog is also strengthened. What does your dog learn when he goes on a puppy course?

• Learning basic commands such as come, lie, sit, let go, give attention.
• Learning to walk on a leash.
• Improve communication between owner and dog.
• Give the owner and the dog confidence.

Tip 3 - learn to be alone

When the puppy is about 11 weeks old, you can start getting the puppy used to being alone. It is best to secure the puppy in connection with furniture demolition. The dog beds from L'élianne have a fastening strap on the sleeping bed. Then leave the puppy alone for 15 minutes with a treat. When you return you reward the dog by hugging and saying sweet words.

During this period you build this up more and more by leaving the dog alone. You leave a little longer, open and close the outer door, are silent or start talking in the other room. When you make it more difficult to be alone and reward the dog correctly when you return, the dog can quickly realize what is expected of him.

Tip 4 - learn to walk without a leash

Once has to be the first time. Letting the puppy run free without a leash is of course exciting for the puppy and the owner. To start this as early as possible you can avoid running away. Another advantage of letting your puppy run free immediately is that he does not learn to pull and play on a leash. If you untie the puppy, many puppies will follow you by itself, but you will just see that you have that stubborn explorer. By rewarding your puppy when he comes to play with you on his own, he will see that he will find you more and more interesting. Enthusiasm and high talking helps, which is why puppies often find children so interesting.

Tip 5 - Find solutions if the puppy is not coming

Don't: Get angry, yell loudly, or run after the puppy if your puppy doesn't come right away when you call him.

Do's:

  • Sit in a crouch and pretend to pick up something from the floor
Chances are that the puppy will come and look out of curiosity!
  • Run away yourself, in a different direction
Bet the puppy will come after you right away?
  • Use biscuits to make your dog listen to his name
The puppy will get used to its name and recognize it when you call the puppy.
  • Practice the long leash first
If the puppy does not listen, you will still have it under control due to the long line.
  • Hide yourself behind a tree or bush
This way your puppy learns in a playful way that he should keep an eye on you.
  • Do not forget to smile!
You would rather walk to someone with a radiant smile than an angry head!
