Great, because this is a cosmopolitan dog friendly city, where you will find all kinds of facilities to enjoy a holiday with your pet. Here are a few hints and tips so you know exactly where you can take your dog and which rules you need to abide by in our city. Also, it's best to invest in a well-made dog carrier to travel.

Taking your pet dog on public transportation in Madrid is a breeze. Municipal buses allow pets as long as they are in a suitable carrier and do not pose a threat or disturbance to other passengers. For local train services, dogs must be in a cage or wear a muzzle and be on a non-extending lead no longer than 1.5 meters, and only one animal per passenger is permitted.

On the metro, pets are allowed at certain times, except during rush hours in the morning and afternoon and during the months of July and August, weekends, and holidays. Dogs must also wear a muzzle and be on a lead no longer than 50cm, and travel in the last carriage of the train. #4 Visit Mercado de San Miguel Market

The Mercado de San Miguele, a covered market of iron and glass in the heart of old Madrid, has been selling meat, fish and vegetables since 1916. At first to local residents, but since its renovation in 2009, also to tourists and gourmets.

In 2009, the renovated Mercado de San Miguel reopened with a new concept: a 21st-century fresh food market for gourmets. The stalls offer the tastiest vegetables, fresh fish and the best jamon. Basically everything for your daily shopping, which of course was the original purpose for the covered market.

Locals may not frequent it as much these days, but tourists do all the more, as Mercado San Miguel has become one of the must see´s and must do´s in Madrid. Even more fun than walking past all the stalls and stocking up on culinary souvenirs (from cheese to wine), is tasting all the goodies the market has to offer on the spot. Sit down at one of the eateries and get surprised with tapas and delicious wines.

#5 Take a Break at Sabatini Gardens in Madrid

The Classical-style gardens in Madrid de los Austrias were built in the 1930s on the site of former stables. They are located in front of the north façade of the Royal Palace and were completed after the Spanish Civil War. The gardens were designed as an extension of the palace and feature several sculptures that were originally intended to decorate the palace's cornice.

The gardens' geometric design and prime location make them some of the most beautiful gardens in Madrid. They are particularly striking at dusk, offering one of the best places in Madrid to watch the sunset. From the central rectangular pond surrounded by fountains, trees and marble sculptures, visitors can admire the changing colors of the palace and enjoy the sunset over the Casa de Campo.
